You just need to bring your dog and enough food for their stay! I use special crates designed to keep your dog safe and reduce any anxiety. You are welcome to send your dogs favorite toys or treats, but this isn't required as I have lots of things here already.
All dogs are housed at my home with heat and air provided around the clock. The best way to teach your dog how to behave in the home is to train them in one. This gives me ample opportunity to notice any unwanted behaviors and to be able to correct them.
E-collars use something called electric stimulation (tens unit), which you may have been exposed to yourself if you’ve ever gone to a chiropractor or a physical therapist. It’s not a shock—it’s more of a pulsing wave sensation. And there are many more settings for the intensity, which can range from very low to high—so you have control over what your pup feels.
E-collars work as a form of negative reinforcement, meaning taking something away that increases or maintains the frequency of a behavior. Think of it like when you're driving your car and you haven't buckled your seat belt, that annoying dinging sound starts until you buckle up. Once you perform the desired behavior, the dinging stops. That is exactly how an e-collar works in dog training. Small levels of stimulation are sent through the collar to guide your dog into performing a specific behavior and once that behavior is offered, those taps stop. This teaches the dog what you are looking for from them and encourages them to preform that behavior more frequently.
Your dog should wear the e-collar consistently for an average of 6 months once they return home. Ideally, you are looking for your dog to respond to a command 9 out of 10 times without needing stimulation from the collar. Once you have achieved this, the e-collar can come off in the home. I recommend that your dog wear the collar any time they are outside, off leash. Just like a seat belt, you hope you won't need it, but it's there if you do!
